"The combs of wind" in San Sebastian, a Eduardo Chillida's artwork

To continue in talking about Chillida's work, one of the most famous is probably "The combs of wind" set up at the feet of the Monte Igualdo at the extremity of the very beautiful Concha of San Sebastian.

The artwork is composed by 3 metal pieces anchored in the rocks. The opposition between the massive volums of rocks and the linear shapes of the pieces, between the materials - stone and steel -, the colors - yellow-grey for the rocks and rusted red for the pieces, the proximity of the sea which can be very tumultuous at this place when the pieces are static, the presence of these artefacts and elements of the nature, render a very strong feeling of eternity.

The traces of rust on the surface of the rocks seem to be blood like a place where prisoners would be executed. Or is-it a scar from which the blood of the center of earth could be come out ?

All the interpretations are possible. And maybe, in these questions, the visitor meets the artist when Chillida said : "The art for an artist is a question, does our answer is in the succession of questions ?
